Patricia Ridings, FNP

Patricia Ridings is a Family Nurse Practitioner. She usually goes by Pat or Patty. She is certified through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She grew up in a large family on a farm in rural Pittsburg Kansas. She and her husband and daughter live in rural Cherokee, Kansas. They have two dogs and a cat. Patty's interest as an RN took her to Kansas City for a year and then more locally working in areas such as ICU, Dialysis, Medical Surgical, Mental Health, Pediatrics and OB. She taught at Labette Community College for 6 years. The majority of her FNP career has been caring for families in the local community. Outside of the local community, Patty has had a recent opportunity to travel and serve areas of need through Docs Who Care, Olathe Ks. They provide care through

Indian Health Services ( IHS ) and Critical Access Hospitals and Clinics.

She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Pittsburg State University in 1989. She later earned her Masters degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2011 from Pittsburg State University. Her experience as a Nurse Practitioner has been serving patients in a family practice setting as well as time in an Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology office. This back ground provided assessment skills and experience to evaluate and manage many health needs. It is important to Patty that she is able to work in a setting where she can build a relationship with her patients and give them the best care possible. She can make referrals to specialists when needed and help find necessary resources for patients.

Patty enjoys getting to know her patients so that is why a Direct Care practice is a perfect fit for her.  She also realizes that sometimes a patient just needs a quick evaluation for a current or acute illness and may already have a regular provider. She is glad to help when available for this type of appointment in these circumstances. When not at work, Patty enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter  and family, and time enjoying music, volunteering and gardening.

One of the biggest (and most important) differences you’ll find between us, a Direct Care practice, and other traditional family practices is the number of patients we see.

Most family docs in Kansas routinely include 2,500 patients or more in their practices. Others around the country are even more packed— 3,000 to 4,000 patients!

With Ridings Healthcare, you’ll be part of an intimate family practice where I treat hundreds of patients compared to thousands. With this solid foundation, the advantages are inevitable and plentiful.

As a member of Ridings Healthcare, you’ll have access to the following:

Unlimited access to care when its needed.

Literally. After hours, weekends, holidays – there’s no bad time to receive excellent medical care. If you need one visit a month or multiple appointments - there is no extra charge. These services are part of your membership.

I am committed to being available and will have provider coverage for those times when I schedule time off.

Extended, relaxed visits.
You won’t feel rushed through an appointment and there’s never a question you won’t have time to ask. We will have time to partner for your best care.  This will allow for risk assessment, preventative care, medication review and education. Part of the relationship you’ll build with me is based on your understanding of your care. That’s what I call personal healthcare.

Same-day and next-day service scheduling.
Because I have reserved my time for a select few, there will be no “squeezing you in.” You’re a priority and you’ll feel like one. Patty is currently full an unable to take new patients. Please call to be added to the waitlist.

FAQ
  • “What’s DPC?”
Direct Primary Care, or DPC, is a model of healthcare that puts patients first by getting rid of the red tape by which most other traditional practices are restricted.
  • “What is Ridings Healthcare?”
Ridings Healthcare is Pittsburg's first completely Direct Primary Care practice. We offer a pattern of family healthcare that is immediate, thorough, comprehensive, specific, easily affordable, and very personalized. It is based on a membership or retainer fee that provides great access to your nurse practitioner - Patty Ridings or her associate when she is away.
  • “Is concierge medicine the same as Direct Primary Care?”
The terms are often used interchangeably and essentially refer to the same principles. Direct Primary Care is a healthcare model focused on putting the patient first. That means treating them when they need it, never rushing patients through appointments, and being proactive with healthcare treatment plans. The health care provider-patient relationship is just as the name suggests – direct. Direct Primary Care clinics don’t accept insurance, rather they choose to work directly with the patient, providing discounted labs, services, deeply discounted in office medication prices, and other costs savings along the way. Patty will be an advocate for you when referrals or medication prior authorizations for example, are needed.
  • "What sets Ridings Healthcare apart from other practices?""
We have cut the red tape of bureaucracy. The restrictions that typically leave Physicians and Nurse Practitioners in a traditional healthcare setting buried in nonsense paperwork are lifted through Direct Care, allowing us to spend our time where it really counts: with patients. In refusing to recognize any interference with the sanctity of the patient-physician or NP relationship, we have returned family practice medicine to its root values of clinical excellence for and compassionate knowledge of every patient. In every aspect of family healthcare, and custom healthcare, we promise accessibility, convenience, and affordability.
  • “Will I benefit from Ridings Healthcare if I don’t require frequent medical attention?”
Of course. We might argue that everyone benefits from a service tailored directly to them. That’s why we offer truly custom healthcare. Our practice is devoted to the maintenance of your good health, to the enhancements of your daily experience that only physical well-being can bring. We’re here for your reactive needs. But proactive healthcare is important, and we’re here for that, too. At Ridings Healthcare, we have the gift of time. Even better? We get to give the gift of time. Large amounts of precious, irretrievable time given to you as you wish. Every visit, for whatever reason, will be easygoing in its absolute thoroughness, relaxed in answering your questions and addressing the need of the moment. Then, as the months and years go by, we’ll build a comprehensive, intimate knowledge of your health, invaluable understanding available in no other regimen of care.
  • “Does Patricia Ridings Direct Primary Care accept health insurance?”
No. Happily, no. Perhaps the most critical distinction in our model of care centers on a direct, personal relationship between you and your doctor or provider. That directness carries over to our business model as well. While the tender mercies of an insurance company might apply to the fixing of a damaged fender on your automobile, we see no reason for any insurer to have a voice about either the quality or the cost of your family’s care. We forgo insurance payments in order to save our patients from the arbitrary, intrusive decisions that inevitably follow with third-party payors. Furthermore, this direct fee-for-services arrangement frees us from the typical contractual agreements that prevent physicians from offering discounted prices on laboratory tests, imaging, and medications. This is how we can keep costs lower and offer more services.
  • “As a patient of Patty Ridings DPC, will I still need health insurance?”"
Yes. We recommend our patients continue a major medical plan with a high deductible and health savings account to ensure financial help should hospitalization or referral to a specialist be necessary. We’re happy to refer you to insurance representatives who can help customize an insurance plan to your specific needs.
  • “Can you help me find affordable insurance for my family or my business?”
Absolutely. We’re fortunate to work with the industry leaders in health insurance who build custom plans that remove much of the waste and inefficiency from a typical, bloated policy. We can help to save families nearly $1,000/month and many businesses up to 50% while providing a higher level of care. If you’re interested in speaking with a health insurance expert, contact Joe Martin at 316.259.8710.
  • “If I have Medicare, can I still join Ridings Healthcare?”"
Yes. You need only sign a one-time waiver declaring that neither you nor your doctor will directly bill Medicare for our services. Medicare will still cover any laboratory testing, imaging, medications, prescribed by our office and hospitalizations.
  • “Is my membership to Ridings Healthcare tax deductible?”
Unfortunately, no. Your retainer is not yet defined as a “medical expense” in most states and as such is not deductible. Please confer with your tax consultant to clarify tax consequences in your particular circumstances.
  • “What happens if I need to go to the hospital or see a specialist?”
In providing superb care with unprecedented sorts of access, we seek to prevent or reduce hospitalizations and specialty referrals. In instances where those types of care are required, we will certainly continue to coordinate with your hospitalist during your hospital stay as well as work closely with any specialist. In some cases, depending on the level of care and the sorts of expertise required, we may rely on those specialized caregivers to manage your treatment. Patty is happy to help you find needed resources.
  • “Can children become members of Patty Ridings DPC?”
Yes. We are happy to accept children (birth to 20 years of age) We encourage a parent membership but we are not making this a requirement at this time. Starting in March, 2020, an adult member will be required to sign a child for services. At this time, we are not able to provide routine vaccinations for young children but we will happily work with you to arrange these.
  • Do you accept HMOs, Tricare Prime or Medicaid?"
We are not Medicaid, HMO or Tricare providers. If you have this type of insurance, only your assigned primary-care provider may make referrals and order tests for you. Because we are not compatible with Medicaid, HMO or Tricare plans, we may not be able to provide the administrative support you may require. We can help work out cash prices or savings for most laboratory imaging and specialists consults. We can also try to work with your assigned primary care provider and make recommendations on appropriate studies and referrals, but we cannot guarantee they will follow our recommendations.
  • “Can I contact you after hours? And how?”
By all means, yes! Because illness and injury do not respect regular office hours, you may call us any day, at any hour. You will be given direct contact numbers, you can also text, email or facetime. We invite you to arrange for home visits, schedules permitting. After regular office hours appointments are available when needed and are part of your membership. It’s how we do custom healthcare.
  • “What if I need medical attention while I’m away from home?”
Naturally we provide such care – yet another freedom we enjoy together as a result of Ridings Healthcare independence from the restrictions of third-party payment. Because we know you well, we can streamline your care when you’re sick away from home. Many illnesses can be diagnosed and treated with a simple conversation by phone, email, text or webcam. We’ll locate the nearest pharmacy and order the medications most appropriate for your circumstances.
  • “Are my medical records ever shared with insurance carriers or pharmaceutical companies?”
We maintain scrupulous standards of privacy. We are never obligated to provide any third party with a copy of your records unless you specifically ask that we do so.
  • “How will I know if the providers/staff of Patty Ridings DPC are right for me?”
Come get to know us! Schedule a free, unconditional visit to discuss your healthcare needs. It’s the only reasonable way to begin what we trust will be a long, productive, healthy relationship. Lets meet and see what questions you have.
